Drug Testing Verifications

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

Medical review of drug test results protects both employees and employers from the liabilities inherent in any drug-testing program. The integrity of a testing program depends on its fairness and accuracy: no individual should be labeled a substance abuser in error. The Medical Review Officer (MRO), a licensed physician certified by the American Association of Medical Review Officers, plays a central role in ensuring that this does not happen. Tests confirmed positive at the laboratory should undergo the medical review process to rule out the possibility of a prescription medication or other legitimate reason for the positive result. The MRO will interview the donor to gather prescription information. If the donor is currently under a doctor’s care with a valid prescription in their name, the test will most probably be reported back as a negative. A medical review will be performed on any positive test involved in our background investigations or pre-employment screenings of an individual, as well as those who are part of a random selection program. The MRO is the balancing force, protecting employee rights, pursuing accurate information, and watching out for the safety of all involved.

Our standard nine-panel urine test consists of the following:

Amphetamines (amphetamine and methamphetamine)
Cocaine metabolite
Marijuana metabolites
Opiates (codeine and morphine)
Phencyclidine
Barbiturates
Benzodiazepines
Methadone
Propoxyphene

Hair testing for a 90-day drug use history

Hair testing for drugs of abuse is the only drug-testing method available that provides up to a 90-day drug use history. This makes hair testing from Employer Solutions an ideal solution for pre-employment and random testing protocols.

Using FDA-cleared testing reagents, this lab-based test offers the advantages of easy specimen collection and highly accurate results that meet the same reference standards as urine testing. In addition, there are no known methods for sample adulteration (hair washing will not dilute the sample). Because specimen collection can be directly observed, the risk of adulteration is even further reduced.

Fast turnaround of results is also available. Negative results are reported within 24 hours of receipt at the laboratory, and positive results are confirmed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) or gas chromatography/mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (GC/MS/MS) within 48 to 72 hours. Hair testing is also forensically defensible.

When compared with urine specimen testing, hair testing provides up to 2.5 times the number of positives and a longer detection window. In addition, C U CLEAR offers a comprehensive, nationwide collection network and provides online and CD-ROM-based collection training.

Hair testing can reveal the following classes of drugs:

• Amphetamines (including Ecstasy)
• Cocaine
• Marijuana
• Opiates
• Phencyclidine (PCP)
